Today, the Office of Head Start (OHS) announced the release of the new Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). This is an exciting milestone – the first major revision since release over 40 years ago! The announcement from OHS states:
The new HSPPS are streamlined, simplified, and reorganized to improve clarity and transparency to support high-quality program delivery and minimize administrative burden.
There are two significant changes noted in the announcement from OHS. The first is a change to require programs to offer longer service duration. Second is a focus on solidifying the essential role of parents in the program. The new HSPPS are effective November 7, 2016, and OHS is allowing additional time to comply with particular provisions.
