Today, the Office of Head Start (OHS) forecasted four additional DRS Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) on grants.gov. This DRS season has seen NOFOs forecasted and posted on a variety of timelines, as we summarized in Status of Grant Competitions and Resources for Applicants.

The newly forecasted NOFOs are listed below with the estimated funding amount and number of awards. All of these competitions are expected to open on January 24, 2024 and the estimated due date for applications is March 26, 2024. Detailed lists of service areas up for competition will be posted on the Office of Head Start Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) Locator, though as of the publishing of this blog post (December 8), this information is not yet available.

Indiana – Head Start/Early Head Start

  • $3,760,840
  • Estimated number of awards: 2

Pennsylvania – Early Head Start Expansion and Early Head Start – Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP)

  • $6,914,508
  • Expected number of awards: 2

Pennsylvania – Head Start/Early Head Start

  • $10,958,463
  • Expected number of awards: 3

Virginia – Head Start/Early Head Start

  • $3,365,187
  • Expected number of awards: 2

The timeline for these DRS grant competitions is 9 weeks. This is a typical turnaround time for Head Start/Early Head Start grant applications. For programs competing for the forecasted grants, we recommend getting started on program design and budget planning. It is also important to have up-to-date data on community needs that your program can use to justify its program design.

Foundations for Families offers services to help programs get ready for a competitive grant. If your program has the capacity to write its own grant application but needs help with the timeline, template, and process, consider Foundations for Families’ DRS Toolkit. Please contact us to learn more.
