Effective Head Start Monitoring and Managing by Outcomes

With OHS’s new focus on School Readiness Goals and Re-competition, Head Start programs are under more pressure than ever before to demonstrate not just compliance, but positive outcomes as well. In fact, not establishing clear school readiness goals is one of the seven triggers that will force programs into re-competition. On-going monitoring is another key area of compliance, where multiple non-compliances can lead to a deficiency – which will also trigger re-competition. Nearly every section of the monitoring protocol specifically asks questions about how you monitor your programs performance – which most easily translates into the question: what data do you review on a regular basis to ensure your programs is doing well?

(the NHSA website description says re-competition – we usually say CFR 1307 or redesignation – potato/potatoh, tomato/tomatoh…if you think you might be interested in this, you probably are).

The Lady Bird Johnson Head Start Hero’s Award has been presented, since its founding in 2006, to seven exemplary public servants who have demonstrated their commitment and passion for keeping the window of opportunity open.
