The tenth round of Designation Renewal System (DRS) grant opportunities are now forecasted on grants.gov. The estimated posting date for Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) is September 8, 2021. Applications are estimated to be due on November 8, 2021.

Head Start/Early Head Start grants are forecasted in 10 states as well as Puerto Rico and Bronx Borough in New York City. States include Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia. Specific service areas up for competition in each state have not yet been announced. A detailed list of funding forecasts, including service areas and funding amounts, is available on the Office of Head Start (OHS) Funding Opportunities website.

One of our top recommendations for how to prepare for your upcoming DRS grant writing is to familiarize yourself with a FOA that may be similar. On the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Grants & Funding page you can find open or recently expired Head Start/Early Head Start grant competitions. Here is an example from DRS round 9 that you might consider reviewing. There are no guarantees that the FOA for DRS round 10 will be the same, although we don’t anticipate any major changes.

While you wait for DRS grant competitions to open, explore a few blog posts that provide guidance and tips for success: Explore What Makes DRS Unique and How Your Program Can Prepare, 5 Factors that Make a Difference in DRS Proposal Development, and Data Updates and COVID Impact Essential for 2021 Grant Writing.

Leveraging the time between now and when DRS FOAs for planning and preparation will help to ensure your grant writing process is smooth and successful.
